This complete multi-phased renovation enhances one of the nation’s largest academic medical centers allowing them to personalize their food service offerings. The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is part of the Ohio State University and their College of Medicine is consistently ranked among the top 40 medical schools in the U.S.  Due to the center’s growth, redevelopment of the kitchen area, built in the 1960s, was needed to gain additional capacity and efficiency to serve more meals. Renovations included a 16,000 SF central production kitchen, hospitality centers in six locations, a consolidated bulk food storage room, a 650-seat main dining hall, food servery / kitchen, dishwashing area and grab & go area, as well as relocating and renovating elevator lobbies and offices for nutrition services, MIM and epidemiology.

As cost estimating consultant to the A/E, Megen’s preconstruction team provided cost estimates at the schematic design, design development and construction documents phases of the project. Our team also advised on the cost impact of design alternatives, and collaborated on the development of a multi-phased schedule to keep facilities fully operational during construction. The completed kitchen revitalization supports production of more than 3 million meals for the entire health system.
