The transformative addition and renovation of the Laurel Oaks Career Campus, a fast-growing Great Oaks campus located in Wilmington, Ohio. Focused on security, comfort and innovation, the project adds classroom, lab and collaboration spaces for current and future students, with the new addition’s design honoring the area’s aviation heritage and Laurel Oaks’ history as an air base .

Construction included additional and enlarged classrooms and career labs, high-bay structures suited for specific career programs, relocation of the animal science and equine program facilities, and an expanded cafeteria. Hands-on classrooms and labs are featured for the career campus’ various programs including welding, carpentry, cosmetology, early childhood, exercise/sports medicine, dental, medical/nursing, animal science, and digital innovation. The new 62,000 SF addition serves as a wayfinding connector between the two main buildings and creates a secure and inviting entrance on the north side of the building. A central gathering space is the focal point of the addition with generous daylight and high ceilings, connected to huddle rooms, study spaces, and flexible meeting spaces. The project also includes tech support areas, meeting/training rooms, a cybrary with makerspace, and administrative offices. A new driveway from Airborne Road will lead to safer student, staff and visitor parking.

Megen, in conjunction with our partner, provided preconstruction and construction management at risk services. Phased construction was completed while the buildings were occupied, with increased construction activity during summer breaks. Our team met the project’s fast-track schedule timeline for phases 1 through 4, which entailed classroom renovation work over the summers of 2019, 2020, and 2021, to be completed before students returned to school for the start of the academic year. The quality of construction has received many commendations from school staff, past alumni, and the State of Ohio’s governor.
