This building program for Little Miami Local School District aimed to provide additional and updated education facilities for the growing school district with a combination of new construction (totaling 227,000 SF) and renovations (totaling 18,000 SF) in four schools. The new 102,000 SF early childhood school houses 800 students, and was constructed on the site of the existing Salem Elementary School. This student-centered facility supports preschool through first grade students with a focus on spaces where young learners can explore and experience different learning environments. Features include academic pods, interactive flex studios, a learning stair with slide element, cafeteria/kitchen, gymnasium, and multiple outdoor patio areas for student learning. Certified with a LEED Gold rating, sustainable features include recycled materials, energy-efficient light fixtures, natural lighting throughout facility, and building automated systems for heating and cooling.

Modernizing current facilities with renovations and additions at Little Miami’s Intermediate Schools, Junior High School and High School were also an integral part of the building program. Renovation/addition construction involved updating and expanding classrooms, labs, media center, admin space, and student collaboration areas, as well as MEP system updates.

Megen, in conjunction with their partner, provided preconstruction and construction management at risk services for the building program. Our team saved District funds on the project through utilizing a glass storefront system, efficient roof membrane system, and fast-track replacement of the HVAC system. This allowed additional parking lots to be included in the scope of the project. While constructing on occupied school campuses meant phasing projects, our team completed each phase on schedule for the beginning of the school year.
