Freedom Center
A beacon on the Ohio River, the National
Underground Railroad Freedom Center is a 160,000 s.f. educational and
interactive museum at the center of Cincinnati's Historic Riverfront
district. This 3-pod building includes interactive multi-media exhibits,
325-seat theater, history galleries, public forum rooms, research area,
education resource center and a two-story slave pen. The National Underground
Railroad Freedom Center was first proposed in 1994, and opened in August
2004. Its purpose is to recount the powerful American story of freedom
from slavery and oppression by using the values of courage, and the
saga of the Underground Railroad to inspire visitors with a renewed
commitment to strengthen and promote freedom everywhere.
